Tomás Gueifão, a student of the Master in Biostatistics at Faculdade de Ciências da Universidade de Lisboa just started an MSc within ACCURATE. Given the considerable time that processing tags for the echolocation clicks of sperm whales involved, we decided to investigate if we could optimize that process for other deep divers. Tomas will be looking at Convolutional Neural Networks (CNNs) to do the job for beaked whales, in a collaboration between the ACCURATE project and Dr. Emmanuel Dufourq at the Data Science for Eco-Systems Research Group (DS4ES). We look forward to see the progress on yet another ACCURATE spin off.
