A member of ACCURATE participated in the training session of Vaka Motu in the Mediterranean Sea from OKEANOS Foundation. Vaka Motu, a Traditionally-Based Double-Hull Sailing Canoe, will be sailing in the Mediterranean Sea for environmental education. Popi from ACCURATE was on board on Vaka Motu and delivered a talk and training on passive acoustic monitoring, cetacean vocalization, and methods to estimate density from acoustic data.

During the training period, a hydrophone was deployed and used which was built by Dr Jonathan Gordon some 20 years ago. A sperm whale was heard during the three days of hydrophone testing and hopefully more will be detected and observed during the summer months when Vaka Motu will be sailing and delivering environmental education with youth camps.
